Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, commended the Union budget for 2026-27, highlighting its benefits for the state. Adhikari expressed optimism, stating that the budget includes a significant investment plan for infrastructure development to boost industrialization in West Bengal.
Adhikari emphasized key projects proposed for the state, such as the East Coast Industrial Corridor, connecting Tamil Nadu to Durgapur in West Bengal. He also mentioned the ‘Dedicated Freight Corridor from Dankuni to Surat,’ which is expected to enhance industrial potential in the region. Additionally, he noted the high-speed rail corridor from Varanasi to Siliguri aimed at similar objectives.
Furthermore, Adhikari praised the Central government’s efforts in restructuring personal income tax, making income up to Rs 12 lakh tax-free. He highlighted the positive impact of GST concessions on market prices, benefiting the common people directly. Adhikari described the Union Budget as pro-people, focusing on the holistic development of various sectors.
Adhikari underscored the budget’s objectives, including increasing farmers’ income, empowering women, creating youth employment, and promoting overall development. He emphasized the importance of boosting exports, attracting foreign investment, and generating employment to strengthen the Indian economy amidst global economic challenges. Adhikari also called for the removal of the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal to fully leverage the benefits of the proposed projects.
