Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would come to power in the state after this year’s Assembly elections if around six percent of the ‘anti-Hindu’ votes shift towards the party. Adhikari mentioned that to secure victory in the upcoming elections, the BJP needs an additional six percent of votes, particularly from Hindu voters who did not support the party in the 2024 polls. He made these remarks during a rally in his constituency of Nandigram in East Midnapore district.

Adhikari also asserted that if West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee contests again from Nandigram in 2026, he is confident of defeating her with a significantly larger margin. Referring to the previous election, he stated that he had defeated Banerjee by a narrow margin of less than 2,000 votes in 2021. However, he claimed that if she runs from Nandigram again, he anticipates winning by a margin of 20,000 votes.

Furthermore, Adhikari highlighted that a significant portion of Muslim voters in West Bengal is keen on removing the Trinamool Congress from power in the state. He emphasized that if the BJP assumes power in West Bengal, financially disadvantaged Muslim voters would benefit. Adhikari acknowledged the low percentage of Muslim votes received by the BJP in previous elections but expressed hope for their support in the future.
