Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, has filed a petition at the Calcutta High Court requesting a CBI investigation into the alleged attack on his convoy in West Midnapore. The petition has been admitted by Justice Suvra Ghosh, with the first hearing date pending. The Union Home Ministry has also shown concern over the incident, requesting a detailed report from Adhikari’s office.
Adhikari’s office has submitted five videos related to the convoy attack on January 10. Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally contacted Adhikari to inquire about the incident. Adhikari described the events at Chandrakona during a 15-minute conversation with Shah.
The attack on Adhikari’s convoy occurred in West Midnapore district while returning to Kolkata from a political event in Purulia. Adhikari accused Trinamool Congress activists of blocking the road with party flags and assaulting his convoy with bamboo sticks, damaging the bulletproof vehicle. Despite the prolonged attack, local police did not intervene.
This is not the first time Adhikari’s convoy has been targeted. In a previous incident in August 2025 at Cooch Behar town, individuals allegedly associated with the Trinamool Congress attempted to obstruct his convoy.
