The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK), has achieved a significant milestone by managing 64.026 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo from April 2025 to February 2026. This surpasses the total traffic handled in the entire Financial Year 2024–25, which was 63.951 MMT. With one month left in the current financial year, the Port has already exceeded last year’s cargo throughput.
Over the last 11 months, SMPK has seen growth in both its dock systems. The Kolkata Dock System (KDS) handled 17.033 MMT, showing a growth of 13.48% compared to the previous year. Similarly, the Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) managed 46.993 MMT, marking a growth of 10.06% from the previous year. Overall, the cargo traffic of SMP Kolkata increased by 10.95% over the same period last year.
The port also witnessed record growth in container traffic, handling 8,74,360 TEUs between April 2025 and February 2026. This exceeded the previous record set during FY 2019-20. Port chairman Rathendra Raman commended the efforts of all stakeholders and expressed satisfaction with the performance, emphasizing the dedication and coordinated work of Team SMP Kolkata and trade partners.
Crossing the cargo handling performance of the previous financial year before the current fiscal year ends showcases the commitment and efforts of Team SMP Kolkata and its partners. The port aims to enhance efficiency, improve logistics connectivity, and contribute significantly to India’s port-led development vision. With continuous modernization efforts and enhanced cargo handling systems, SMP Kolkata is poised to achieve even greater milestones in the future.
