Sydney Sixers have named Peter Clarke as the head coach of their women’s team for the next two seasons. Clarke, who also coaches the NSW Breakers, will lead the Women’s Big Bash League outfit while maintaining his role with the Breakers.
Clarke’s appointment marks the completion of the Sixers’ coaching transition following Matthew Mott’s move to lead the club’s men’s Big Bash League team. He guided the Breakers to the Women’s National Cricket League final in his debut season, where NSW had a strong performance.
Under Clarke’s leadership, NSW had a successful regular season, with just one loss before narrowly missing out on the championship due to a rain-interrupted match against Queensland. His familiarity with the Sixers setup, having worked as an assistant coach alongside Mott during the previous WBBL campaign, played a key role in his selection.
The Sixers decided to have separate head coaches for their men’s and women’s programs, opting against having Mott oversee both sides. Mott recently took over as the coach of the Sixers’ BBL team, succeeding James Hopes, who left to take up coaching roles with Queensland and the Brisbane Heat.
Clarke, who previously worked as a psychologist with the Australian women’s team, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He expressed excitement about joining a club with a rich history of success and praised the team’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
Sixers general manager Rachael Haynes welcomed Clarke’s appointment, highlighting his cricketing knowledge, leadership qualities, and vision for the program. She thanked Matthew Mott for his contributions to the WBBL program and expressed confidence in the new coaching structure for both the women’s and men’s teams.
