The Tambaram City Municipal Corporation (TCMC) has initiated the first phase of the Census of India 2027, starting the online self-enumeration process and preparing for a comprehensive door-to-door house-listing survey set to kick off on August 1.
Residents can participate in the self-enumeration process via the official Census portal from July 17 to July 31 using their mobile phones, tablets, or computers. This online option allows households to submit their information beforehand, streamlining field verification and enhancing data accuracy.
Tambaram Corporation Commissioner and Principal Census Officer S. Balachander mentioned that households completing the online process will receive an 11-digit Self Enumeration (SE) ID via SMS or email. It is advised for residents to retain this unique ID and present it to census officials during their visit.
The corporation has assigned 1,483 enumerators and 243 supervisors for the initial phase of the census across all areas under its jurisdiction. Field staff will conduct door-to-door visits from August 1 to August 30, covering every residential and commercial building within the corporation limits.
To ensure thorough coverage, the civic body has established 1,483 house-listing blocks, each encompassing around 150 to 200 households. During the visits, enumerators will cross-check information from the self-enumeration portal and gather data from households that have not completed online registration.
