The Tamil Nadu BJP stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Madurai signifies a crucial political juncture as the NDA ramps up its engagement in the state before the Assembly elections. A.N.S. Prasad, TN BJP spokesperson, highlighted the Prime Minister’s visit, which has sparked enthusiasm among party members, youth, and first-time voters, both on the ground and on social media platforms where the hashtag ‘#ModiComesNDAWins’ has gained traction.
This visit is seen as a symbol of the NDA’s dedication to aligning Tamil Nadu more closely with national development initiatives through a “double-engine government” approach. Prasad emphasized PM Modi’s consistent efforts to elevate Tamil language and heritage on a global scale, citing his recognition of Tamil as the world’s oldest language and India’s pride in April 2024, along with initiatives like the Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centres to promote classical traditions internationally.
PM Modi’s references to Tamil literature and culture have been notable, including his praise for Tamil literature as timeless during a speech in Kuala Lumpur in February 2026, where he announced the establishment of a Thiruvalluvar Centre in Malaysia. Additionally, the Prime Minister has highlighted classical Tamil poets at the United Nations and discussed the Chola-era ‘kudavolai’ system as an early form of democratic practice.
Regarding development initiatives, Prasad pointed to PM Modi’s event in Maduranthakam on January 23, showcasing projects and allocations totaling Rs 11 lakh crore over 11 years. These projects encompass railway modernization, redevelopment of 77 railway stations, expansion of national highways, PMGSY rural roads, Chennai Metro expansion, the new Pamban Bridge, and upgrades to airport and port infrastructure. Welfare schemes like PMAY housing, PM-KISAN assistance, Mudra loans, and crop insurance support have also contributed to inclusive growth in the state.
As elections draw near, Prasad expressed confidence that the NDA’s campaign will receive a boost from the Prime Minister’s visit, influencing the political discourse in the upcoming months.
