Tamil Nadu is expected to face intense heat in the coming days, with the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai cautioning that heatwave conditions will persist, especially in the interior districts. Fishermen are advised to avoid the sea due to anticipated strong winds along the southern coastal waters.
The weather forecast indicates that certain areas in the interior districts may encounter heatwave conditions today. Temperatures are projected to stay well above normal until July 16, with interior regions likely to see temperatures 2 to 4 degrees Celsius higher than usual. Coastal districts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry could also experience temperatures 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above average.
The weather department has highlighted the potential for severe heat discomfort in coastal areas due to the combination of high temperatures and increased humidity levels. This situation raises concerns about heat-related illnesses, especially for children, the elderly, outdoor workers, and individuals with pre-existing health issues. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak hours, and take precautions against heat stress.
Chennai is forecasted to have partly cloudy skies over the next two days. Despite the cloud cover, the city is likely to face oppressive weather conditions due to persistent high temperatures and humidity. Residents may experience significant discomfort, particularly in the afternoon and early evening hours.
While most parts of the state are expected to be hot, the Western Ghats districts may receive light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday according to the RMC’s forecast. Some other districts might also see light showers, offering limited relief from the prevailing hot weather. Strong winds are anticipated over the Gulf of Mannar, the Comorin Sea, and nearby Tamil Nadu coastal waters, prompting a warning for fishermen to avoid these areas until conditions improve.
The weather department reassured that it will closely monitor the evolving weather situation and issue updated advisories as necessary. The public is urged to follow official forecasts and take appropriate precautions as the state continues to face heatwave conditions.
