Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay revealed the initiation of 200 units of free electricity and the establishment of the “SingaPen” Special Task Force as the initial significant decisions of his administration right after being sworn in. Following the oath-taking at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, Vijay proceeded to authorize crucial official documents in the presence of senior officials and ministers, marking the commencement of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government’s welfare and governance program.
Vijay, assuming the role of Chief Minister, took the oath in the presence of Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar amidst enthusiastic cheers from numerous party supporters, well-wishers, and cinema enthusiasts gathered at the venue. He pledged his commitment by taking the oaths of office and secrecy in his name, C. Joseph Vijay.
The TVK leader assumed office subsequent to his party emerging as the largest single entity in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, securing 108 seats in the 234-member House. Despite falling short of the majority threshold of 118, the Congress party extended its support.
The coalition received additional backing from the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India-Marxist, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), collectively amassing 120 MLAs. The swearing-in event was conducted under tight security measures, with approximately 6,000 invitees granted access inside the stadium through special passes.
Notable political figures and film personalities, including Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, alliance leaders, Vijay’s family members, acquaintances, and prominent individuals from the Tamil film industry, graced the occasion. Alongside Vijay, other ministers like N. Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, Dr K.G. Arunraj, K.A. Sengottaiyan, P. Venkataramanan, R. Nirmalkumar, Rajmohan, Dr T.K. Prabhu, and S. Keerthan were also sworn in. This ceremony marked a significant political shift in Tamil Nadu, concluding the long-standing dominance of the state’s traditional Dravidian parties and heralding a new political era under Vijay’s leadership.
