Chief Minister M.K. Stalin praised Tamil Nadu’s agricultural growth, crediting the DMK government’s policies. He criticized the BJP-led Union government for its perceived “anti-farmer” stance. On National Farmers’ Day, Stalin emphasized the importance of farmers and their role in combating hunger globally. The Dravidian governance model’s focus on agriculture has led to tangible improvements in farm output and rural livelihoods.
Listing key initiatives, Stalin mentioned Tamil Nadu’s unique agriculture budget and events connecting farmers with markets. He highlighted the ‘Uzhavan’ mobile app for real-time farmer information and the Kalaignar All-Village Integrated Agricultural Development Programme. Free electricity connections for farmers were also noted as crucial support measures. Despite challenges, the government remains dedicated to enhancing farmers’ incomes and quality of life.
Stalin accused the Union government of neglecting farmer welfare, particularly citing concerns about the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. He announced planned protests against what he sees as anti-farmer decisions. In a separate statement, AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami also recognized National Farmers’ Day, stressing the importance of farmers in the nation’s economy and calling for their welfare and safety. Both the ruling DMK and opposition AIADMK’s statements underscore the significance of farmer welfare in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
