Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is scheduled to visit Karur on Friday to meet the families affected by the tragic 2025 Karur stampede. The visit aims to distribute government job appointment orders to eligible family members, introduce welfare initiatives, and launch a major industrial project set to create numerous job opportunities.
The stampede occurred during a political event in Veluchamipuram on September 27, 2025, resulting in 41 fatalities and numerous injuries. This incident stands as one of the most severe political gathering disasters in recent Tamil Nadu history.
During his visit, the Chief Minister will depart from Chennai, travel to Tiruchy, and then proceed to Karur. He is expected to address the public at the Atlas Kalaiyaranga Ground on the Karur-Salem Bypass Road, where he will announce welfare measures and present government job appointment orders to 32 affected families.
A significant aspect of the visit will be the commencement of a non-leather footwear manufacturing facility in Karur, with an estimated investment of Rs 1,700 crore. This industrial project is anticipated to offer employment to approximately 13,500 individuals, thereby enhancing the local economy and manufacturing sector.
After his public engagements, the Chief Minister will visit the bereaved families at the Government Tourist House to provide reassurance of ongoing government support and rehabilitation efforts. Extensive security measures, including the deployment of 6,500 police personnel and traffic diversions, have been implemented to ensure the smooth execution of the programs.
