Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed disappointment over the Union Budget 2026–27, calling it a letdown for the state. He emphasized the lack of expected allocations and policy support from the Centre during a press interaction in Chennai. Stalin indicated that the state’s response would be reflected in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Stalin labeled the Budget as a hindrance to Tamil Nadu’s development goals, emphasizing that the neglect would not be forgotten by the people. He hinted at the electorate delivering a message through the elections, portraying it as a referendum on the Central government’s stance towards the state. Despite this, Stalin maintained a reconciliatory stance towards his political opponents, emphasizing a focus on governance over hostility.
In a separate event, the Chief Minister inaugurated various public welfare projects in his Kolathur Assembly constituency. Notably, a new multi-storeyed healthcare facility, costing Rs 11.74 crore, was unveiled by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority. The facility aims to enhance medical services accessibility, offering services such as physiotherapy, artificial limb support, dialysis, and patient care units.
As part of his community engagement, Stalin also launched six new ration shops and a recreational park near Kolathur Lake. Additionally, he distributed educational resources and assistance to students and beneficiaries. The presence of key officials and dignitaries at these events underscored the government’s dual focus on welfare initiatives and infrastructure development in the run-up to the elections.
