Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will hold a video conference with DMK district secretaries on Sunday evening to discuss the draft electoral roll released after the state’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The meeting, set for 6 p.m., will involve district secretaries, MPs, MLAs, and zonal observers, with DMK General Secretary Durai Murugan urging all invitees to attend. The SIR was carried out in preparation for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with officials removing 97.37 lakh names from the voter list following the revision drive. The Election Commission’s aim is to ensure transparency and accuracy in the voter rolls before the upcoming major election year. However, the ruling DMK has criticized the revision process, claiming it could disenfranchise legitimate voters, particularly in certain regions and communities. The meeting led by CM Stalin will focus on the DMK’s strategy, including lodging objections, reviewing deletions at constituency levels, and planning discussions with the Election Commission. The electoral list, with around one crore names removed and ongoing claims-and-objections, will be finalized after further scrutiny. These developments highlight the escalating political tensions in Tamil Nadu as the state gears up for the 2026 elections.
