Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, also the TVK president, will host the inaugural gathering of parties backing his administration on Wednesday evening. The meeting, set at Fisherman’s Cove resort near Chennai, aims to solidify the ruling coalition formally and enhance coordination among allies. This initiative lays the foundation for a stable governance over the next five years.
This assembly marks the first official coalition gathering overseen by Vijay since he assumed office. Following the 2026 Assembly election, where TVK secured 108 seats, various parties pledged their support to the ruling party. Notably, Congress was the first to extend its backing, followed by Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), MDMK, and others.
In a bid to express gratitude for the continuous support and to establish a structured secular coalition led by TVK, CM Vijay is expected to engage with alliance leaders personally. The meeting is anticipated to address the nomenclature of the coalition, with options like “Secular Social Justice Alliance” and “Tamil Nadu Progressive Social Justice Alliance” being considered.
Leaders from Congress, VCK, MDMK, and IUML are slated to participate in the meeting, while CPI and CPI(M) will not be in attendance as they are extending only external support. The gathering is likely to focus on appointing alliance coordinators, forming a joint steering committee, and strategizing for upcoming local body elections and Assembly by-elections.
The agenda is set to cover crucial state matters such as the Cauvery River dispute, the Mekedatu Dam project, and the two-language policy. Additionally, the alliance partners will present their governance priorities and explore avenues to integrate them into the government’s policy framework.
