Chennai, Aug 2 (IANS) Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will visit major manufacturing facilities in the Sriperumbudur-Oragadam industrial corridor on Monday (August 3), as the State government steps up efforts to promote industrial growth, attract investments and strengthen infrastructure in one of Tamil Nadu’s most important manufacturing hubs.

According to the official itinerary, Vijay will begin his visit at Saint-Gobain India Private Limited’s World Glass Complex at Irungattukottai near Sriperumbudur. The facility is among the company’s key manufacturing units in the country. The Chief Minister is expected to interact with officials and take stock of operations at the complex.

He will then visit the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) project office at Mambakkam near Sriperumbudur. During the visit, Vijay is expected to review ongoing infrastructure projects and industrial development initiatives in the region.

Officials are likely to brief him on facilities available in the industrial estates and measures being taken to support existing industries as well as prospective investors. The Chief Minister will later proceed to Oragadam, where he will visit the Daimler Buses India manufacturing facility. The plant is part of the automobile and commercial vehicle manufacturing ecosystem that has transformed the Sriperumbudur-Oragadam region into a major industrial centre.

Vijay is also scheduled to visit the Nissan automobile manufacturing plant near Sriperumbudur. The visit to the automobile facility will form part of his assessment of the operations of major multinational manufacturers located in the corridor.

The Sriperumbudur-Oragadam belt has over the years emerged as one of Tamil Nadu’s largest industrial clusters, with a significant presence of automobile, auto-component, engineering, electronics and other manufacturing companies. Its proximity to Chennai, ports and major highways has helped the region attract large domestic and foreign investments and generate substantial employment.

The government has been focusing on improving connectivity and industrial infrastructure in the corridor to accommodate further expansion and new investments. Officials said Monday’s visit would provide the Chief Minister an opportunity to directly assess the requirements of major industries and review infrastructure development in the industrial belt.

The visit is also expected to underline the government’s efforts to consolidate Tamil Nadu’s position as a leading manufacturing destination while encouraging companies already operating in the State to expand their investments and create additional employment opportunities.
