The Tamil Nadu government is gearing up to enhance the state’s sports ecosystem by focusing on infrastructure development, athlete welfare, and talent identification. A recent review meeting led by Minister Aadhav Arjuna discussed initiatives such as improving sports facilities, implementing job reservations for athletes, and increasing incentives for medalists. The government aims to support talented school students from underprivileged backgrounds by establishing a merit-based talent research wing.
Efforts are underway to ensure athletes have timely access to necessary sports equipment like shoes and training gear without financial barriers. Minister Arjuna highlighted plans to streamline sports associations’ operations through an online platform in collaboration with the Sports Department. Additionally, field inspections across districts will be conducted to assess and enhance sports infrastructure as per the Chief Minister’s directives.
Minister Arjuna engaged with athletes during selection trials, inspecting various facilities including specialized fitness centers for para-athletes, table tennis arenas, weightlifting units, and shooting ranges. The meeting, attended by officials like S. J. R. Chauhan and J. Meganath Reddy, emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering sports excellence in Tamil Nadu.
