Tamil Nadu’s Public Works and Sports Development Minister, Adhav Arjuna, has urged individuals and contractors who believe they were deceived or coerced into paying bribes during the previous government’s tenure in the Public Works and Highways Departments to step forward with their grievances. The minister emphasized the current government’s dedication to transparent and corruption-free governance, highlighting alleged widespread corruption, rule violations, and a bribery network in the departments under the previous administration.
Arjuna claimed that influential figures, including those in power at the time and their associates, purportedly offered government contracts to contractors in exchange for illicit payments. Many contractors, as per the minister, were induced to give significant sums under false promises of securing contracts, only to be swindled afterward. He disclosed that the government has already started receiving complaints from affected contractors and individuals.
Encouraging those who suffered financial losses or were victims of corruption to lodge detailed complaints, Arjuna assured legal protection and confidentiality for complainants. He mentioned that complaints could be submitted to his office, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), or via the official email address provided. The minister pledged thorough examination of each complaint and vowed to pursue legal action promptly to recover the allegedly misappropriated funds and hold the culprits accountable.
Reiterating the government’s pledge to uphold clean governance, Arjuna affirmed that the Public Works and Highways departments would operate with transparency and accountability. He underscored the government’s zero-tolerance stance towards future irregularities, ensuring adherence to legal procedures in all departmental contracts. The minister stressed that the initiative aims to instill confidence among contractors and establish a transparent, corruption-free system for executing public infrastructure projects.
