After controversy arose over Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin’s comment on ‘anti-Sanatan’, Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Aadhav Arjuna stated that their party opposes Hindutva, not Hindus. Arjuna explained that Hindutva, to them, signifies imposing one’s religion and emphasized their stance against caste and religious discrimination.
Arjuna affirmed that the TVK treats Hindus, Christians, and Muslims equally, respecting all faiths. Despite his personal lack of belief in God, as a Minister and MLA, he upholds respect for all religions and castes, in adherence to the Indian Constitution. He stressed the importance of equality and non-discrimination.
Furthermore, Minister Arjuna clarified that their objection is towards Hindutva, not Hinduism, highlighting the misinterpretation of ‘Sanatan’ in Tamil Nadu. He urged the Tamil Nadu LoP to clarify his statement and reiterated their stance against inequality while emphasizing respect for all religions.
In terms of governance, Arjuna mentioned the government’s focus on implementing actions, including shutting down over 700 Tasmac liquor shops to address women’s safety concerns. He also discussed efforts to combat drug sales through collaboration with the police department, emphasizing the importance of CCTV surveillance in every police station for enhanced security.
Regarding the TVK’s commitment to a corruption-free administration, the Minister reiterated their leader’s pledge not to misuse public funds. He invited assessment of their performance after three months, emphasizing their dedication to transparent governance.
