Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam Minister Aadhav Arjun led a review meeting in Chennai’s Villivakkam Assembly constituency involving officials from various government departments like drinking water, sanitation, revenue, police, and public works. This meeting was in response to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s directive for ministers and MLAs to address local issues. Minister Aadhav Arjun categorized constituency problems into three segments to expedite solutions and enhance monitoring.
One of the key concerns highlighted during the meeting was the rise in drug abuse and the operation of liquor outlets in residential areas, a significant issue raised by women during the election campaign. In response, the government swiftly moved to shut down six out of the 11 liquor outlets run by the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation in the constituency.
Emphasizing women’s safety as a priority, Minister Aadhav Arjun instructed the police to ensure transparent handling of complaints at police stations. He mandated video recording of all citizen complaints to promote accountability and prevent disputes. Additionally, he directed the continuous operation of closed-circuit television surveillance systems in police stations.
Regarding civic infrastructure, the minister urged officials to complete stormwater drain works in the constituency before September to prepare for the upcoming northeast monsoon season. He also tasked them with identifying suitable land for a new college in Villivakkam to enhance local students’ access to higher education.
Taking a firm stance against corruption, Aadhav Arjun cautioned officials against accepting bribes in government contracts. He unequivocally stated a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, emphasizing a shift from the previous culture of commissions. The minister granted full authority to the police to combat the distribution of drugs and narcotics in the constituency and maintain law and order effectively.
