The Tamil Nadu Police are contemplating their next steps regarding former DMK minister V. Senthil Balaji and his brother Ashok Kumar, who did not show up for questioning in a ₹35-crore bribery scandal involving a TVK legislator. The case revolves around allegations of attempting to destabilize the government through inducements offered to ruling party MLAs.
State Minister Nirmal Kumar raised concerns about a conspiracy to lure ruling party MLAs with large sums of money, leading to a complaint by TVK MLA Dr. Ilayaraja. The legislator claimed he was offered ₹35 crore to switch political allegiance, prompting the Triplicane Police to register a case and launch an investigation.
Following statements from those arrested in connection with the case, police summoned Senthil Balaji and Ashok Kumar for questioning on July 6. Despite journalists and photographers waiting outside the police station, the brothers failed to appear, prompting police to consider their next legal actions, including issuing fresh summons or stronger measures if they remain unavailable.
As part of precautionary measures, lookout notices have been issued at airports nationwide to prevent the duo from leaving the country. The investigation into the alleged bribery scandal has sparked a significant political uproar in Tamil Nadu, with police now focusing on uncovering the conspiracy to influence elected representatives and destabilize the government.
