Tamil Nadu witnessed a voter turnout of 56.81% by 1 p.m. in the ongoing single-phase Assembly elections across all 234 constituencies. The election saw a four-cornered contest involving the DMK-led alliance, the AIADMK-led front, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), and actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
A total of 4,023 candidates are contesting in the elections, with more than 5.73 crore eligible voters. Notably, Tiruppur recorded the highest turnout at 62.97%, followed by Namakkal (62.51%), Erode (61.79%), and Salem (61.42%). Conversely, the Nilgiris reported the lowest turnout at 50.42%, with Kanyakumari (50.35%) and Tirunelveli (50.73%) also showing lower participation rates.
Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam cast his vote in Periyakulam, Theni district, expressing that the political impact of actor Vijay would only be evident post-results. Additionally, film personalities like Director K. Bhagyaraj and Actor Yogi Babu actively participated in the voting process, encouraging citizens, especially the youth, to vote wisely for the next five years.
