The Tamil Nadu Surfing Association (TNSA) has received the Chief Minister’s State Sports Award for 2025-26 in the Best Sports Organiser category. This recognition was bestowed by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDATN) for TNSA’s exceptional efforts in organizing national and international surfing events and promoting the sport within the state.

TNSA, under the leadership of Arun Vasu, President of the Surfing Federation of India (SFI), has been pivotal in establishing Tamil Nadu as India’s premier surfing destination. The state has successfully hosted major competitions, including the Asian Surfing Championships and various national surfing events, showcasing renowned surf breaks like Covelong and Mahabalipuram.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu have significantly supported the growth of surfing in the state. With enhanced infrastructure and consistent backing from SDAT, TNSA has been able to host top-tier events and nurture emerging talent, elevating India’s standing in the global surfing arena.

The relentless efforts of TNSA and SFI, alongside government support, have not only enhanced India’s presence in international surfing but have also facilitated the development of local talent. By organizing world-class surfing events, TNSA has created a sustainable platform for athletes, fostering sports tourism and community engagement along the coastline.

Arun Vasu expressed gratitude for the award, emphasizing the collective endeavor that has propelled surfing in Tamil Nadu to new heights. He highlighted the importance of building a comprehensive ecosystem around the sport, focusing on long-term impact and continuous growth. Vasu’s leadership has been instrumental in advancing surfing in India, driving increased interest and success on the global stage.
