The Tamil Nadu government is set to collaborate with the Union government to implement ‘Anna Sahayata,’ an AI-driven grievance redressal platform for Public Distribution System (PDS) beneficiaries, especially those under the National Food Security Act. The state is proposing a crucial modification to include District Revenue Officers (DROs) in the grievance resolution process, aiming for quicker and more efficient complaint handling at the district level.

Tamil Nadu’s initiative seeks to complement the existing grievance redressal system by integrating DROs, which could lead to localized resolution of a substantial number of complaints, reducing delays and enhancing accountability. Currently, the grievance mechanism operates at the taluk and state levels, but the state believes the addition of the district tier will fortify the system’s effectiveness.

The state’s well-established technology-centric grievance redressal system for PDS beneficiaries currently functions through the Tamil Nadu Public Distribution System (TNPDS) portal, offering an independent platform for addressing public grievances. Once the MoU is finalized, Tamil Nadu will transition its complaint registration process to the national grievance portal under the ‘Anna Sahayata’ framework, expanding accessibility for beneficiaries.

Diverse channels are available for beneficiaries in Tamil Nadu to register complaints, including toll-free helplines, SMS services, and designated email addresses at the taluk level. The ‘Anna Sahayata’ platform leverages AI-powered conversational technology, enabling beneficiaries to lodge complaints through a WhatsApp chatbot or an Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) service. The platform, supporting 12 regional languages, aims to enhance grievance resolution outcomes and ensure inclusive access for beneficiaries nationwide.
