Tamil Nadu plans to enhance forest protection by utilizing heavy-lift drones capable of carrying up to one tonne of water to combat forest fires. The state will also implement smart electric fencing and satellite-based surveillance systems to address human-wildlife conflicts. These measures are part of the government’s strategy to tackle the challenges posed by rising temperatures and increasing forest fires in Tamil Nadu.

The Forest Department has developed drone-based water spraying systems that can efficiently transport and release large amounts of water over fire-affected areas. The introduction of heavy-lift drones is expected to enhance the department’s firefighting capabilities in remote forest locations where traditional vehicles and personnel face delays.

With concerns rising due to climate change, the state aims to minimize human-wildlife conflicts through technology-driven solutions. Smart electric fencing will be deployed to deter wild animals like elephants from entering villages and farmlands, reducing attacks and crop damage. Additionally, satellite-based cameras will monitor wildlife movement in forests and migration paths to enable real-time alerts for forest officials.

Tamil Nadu is set to pioneer the integration of advanced technology for wildlife monitoring and conflict mitigation in India. This initiative aims to enhance public safety, wildlife conservation, and reduce losses for farmers residing near forest areas. The government’s efforts also include inspecting and improving infrastructure like roadways to ease traffic congestion in busy localities.
