Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader C. Joseph Vijay is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will administer the oath of office to him. Several prominent national and regional political figures, film personalities, and party workers are expected to attend the ceremony.
The TVK emerged as the largest party in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections but fell short of a simple majority. However, with the support of various parties, including the Indian National Congress, Communist parties, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, and Indian Union Muslim League, the TVK-led bloc has secured 120 Members of the Legislative Assembly, surpassing the majority mark of 118.
Governor Arlekar extended the invitation to Vijay to form the government after alliance partners presented letters of support to the Raj Bhavan. Vijay is anticipated to take the oath alongside a few Cabinet members, with the full ministry expected to be expanded later. Vijay’s ascension to Chief Minister is seen as a significant political event in Tamil Nadu, marking his first term in office amid heightened public and political interest in the state.
