Hyundai Motor India Limited announced that Tarun Garg has assumed the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, becoming the first Indian to lead the company in its 29-year history. Garg, with over 30 years of automotive experience, is set to drive HMIL’s next phase of growth in India, succeeding Unsoo Kim, who will take on a strategic role at Hyundai Motor Company in South Korea. Garg expressed his excitement at leading HMIL during a crucial period for India’s automotive industry, emphasizing a focus on sustainable growth, technological leadership, and customer satisfaction.

Garg, who previously held key positions at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, is tasked with furthering HMIL’s commitment to ‘Make in India’ and positioning the company as a global export hub. The leadership transition signifies Hyundai Motor Group’s confidence in India’s potential and strategic significance, heralding a new era of innovation and progress. Jose Munoz, President and CEO of HMC, praised Garg’s appointment, highlighting his role in achieving record sales, profits, and overseeing India’s largest IPO in 2024 during his tenure as COO at HMIL.
