American Taylor Townsend and Czech player Katerina Siniakova defeated top-seeded Italians Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in the Miami Open women’s doubles final. They are the first pair since 2019 to achieve the Sunshine Double, a feat previously accomplished by Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka.
Townsend and Siniakova now join the ranks of six women’s doubles teams who have completed the Sunshine Double in tennis history. This includes notable pairs like Jana Novotna and Helena Sukova in 1990, and Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza in 2015.
The victorious duo, Townsend and Siniakova, have secured their fifth title together, which includes victories at prestigious events like Wimbledon in 2024 and the Australian Open in 2025. Their strong performance in the final saw them winning 75% of their first serves and converting 5 out of 10 break points.
During the trophy ceremony, Siniakova expressed her appreciation for Townsend, thanking her for the enjoyable partnership. Both players have previously reached the Miami final with different partners, showcasing their individual prowess in the doubles format.
With this win, Townsend and Siniakova are poised to climb to No. 3 in the Doubles Race rankings, while Errani and Paolini are set to improve from No. 8 to No. 6. The successful tournament run for both pairs indicates a promising season ahead as they aim for strong showings in upcoming competitions.
