Team India achieved a remarkable feat at the IAU 24H Asia and Oceania Championships in Japan, securing a total of five medals, with a clean sweep in the men’s individual events. The Indian men’s team not only clinched the individual podium but also claimed the team gold medal by covering a combined distance of 815.833 km.
The Athletics Federation of India celebrated this historic victory, hailing it as a momentous occasion for Indian Ultra Running in the Asia-Oceania region. The intense 24-hour race, held from May 23 to 24, witnessed elite ultrarunners pushing their boundaries, showcasing exceptional endurance levels. Amar Singh Devanda emerged as the standout performer, bagging the gold medal after completing an impressive 282.881 km.
Amar Singh Devanda’s stellar performance was complemented by Geeno Antony, who secured the second position with a distance of 272.894 km. The host nation, Japan, claimed the team silver with a total distance of 754.726 km, while Australia took home the team bronze with a strong performance led by Phil Gore’s 253.392 km.
The Indian women’s team also left a mark at the championships, securing the team bronze with a total distance of 667.722 km. Tenzin Dolma’s outstanding fourth-place finish, covering 228.939 km, contributed significantly to the team’s success. Meanwhile, Japan’s Miho Nakata dominated the women’s category, winning the individual gold by a significant margin and leading her team to a gold medal victory with an aggregate distance of 707.357 km.
