A tragic car collision southwest of Sydney has claimed the life of a teenage girl and left four others injured, with two in critical condition. The incident involved a sedan and a utility vehicle in the town of Appin, located 53 km southwest of central Sydney. Emergency services responded to the crash around 8 pm on Thursday.
The 17-year-old girl, a passenger in the sedan, lost her life at the scene of the collision. The 46-year-old male driver of the sedan and a 30-year-old female passenger were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Additionally, a 12-year-old boy from the same vehicle sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized for treatment.
The driver of the utility vehicle, a 22-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital under police guard for mandatory drug and alcohol testing. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the collision, with officers from the crash investigation unit leading the inquiry.
In a separate incident from November last year in northern Australia, an elderly woman was killed and three others injured in a crash involving a car allegedly stolen at gunpoint. The fatal collision occurred north of Brisbane, where emergency services responded to the scene in Murrumba Downs. The 16-year-old driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested with significant leg injuries.
Following the initial collision, the stolen car struck an unmarked police vehicle nearby, causing injuries to two officers inside. The incident unfolded after a woman in a neighboring suburb was threatened with a firearm, leading to the theft of the blue Audi involved in the crash. Police have recovered the weapon used in the alleged robbery.
