An 18-year-old Sri Lankan refugee lost her life, and another teenager was severely injured during a clash between two groups of youths at a private bar in Chennai that escalated into a deadly case of road rage. Three individuals, identified as Balamurugan (21), Joshwa (19), and Kishore Kumar (19), have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The deceased, identified as Yancy (18), was a Sri Lankan refugee residing in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district. The confrontation began at a private bar where Yancy and her friends were present. Despite security personnel defusing the initial disagreement, tensions persisted after both groups left the bar.
The conflict reignited outside the bar, leading to bouncers intervening to separate the groups. Later that night, Yancy and her companions encountered the rival group while riding a two-wheeler. An altercation ensued, resulting in stones being hurled at the car, followed by a deliberate collision between the vehicle and the two-wheeler.
Yancy was thrown onto the road due to the impact, resulting in fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 17-year-old girl accompanying her sustained serious injuries and is receiving medical treatment. Yancy’s family has demanded strict action against all involved parties, and the authorities have shut down the bar for potentially allowing underage individuals entry.
