Teenager Ira Jadhav emerged as the highest bid at the first-ever T20 Mumbai Women’s League auction in Mumbai, securing Rs. 10 lakh from Aakash Tigers. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) hailed this event as a significant step forward for women’s cricket in the city.
The auction witnessed intense bidding as teams finalized their squads for the inaugural season, with a total of 363 players going under the hammer. Franchises focused on a blend of young talents and established domestic players, collectively spending Rs. 1.47 crore and selecting 50 players.

The MCA had earlier announced the Icon Players, with Sayali Satghare (SoBo Mumbai Falcons), Saima Thakor (Thane Sky Risers), and Humaira Kazi (Aakash Tigers) leading their respective teams. Notable signings included India U-19 World Cup vice-captain Sanika Chalke, who was acquired by Aakash Tigers for Rs. 5.50 lakh.
Thane Sky Risers made significant additions with Vrushali Bhagat (Rs. 6 lakh), Khushi Bhatia (Rs. 4.50 lakh), and Zeal Dmello (Rs. 4.50 lakh), while SoBo Mumbai Falcons strengthened their squad with players like Simran Shaikh (Rs. 7 lakh), Hurley Gala (Rs. 5 lakh), and Riya Chaudhari (Rs. 5.50 lakh).
Aakash Tigers further bolstered their team with signings such as Fatima Jaffer (Rs. 4.25 lakh), Mitali Mhatre (Rs. 2.75 lakh), and Jeeya Mandrawadkar (Rs. 1.50 lakh). The T20 Mumbai Women’s League aims to elevate women’s cricket in the city by providing a competitive platform for talent identification, development, and progression.
Ira expressed her enthusiasm about joining the league, expressing gratitude to MCA and Aakash Tigers for their trust in her abilities. She looks forward to making the most of this opportunity and contributing her best to the tournament. The league’s initiative in providing exposure and facilities like the Wankhede Stadium is seen as a significant step for young players like her.
