A teenager from Bihar, missing for over a year, was reunited with his family on July 5, with the help of amateur radio operators and officials in West Bengal. The boy, found unwell in Kakinara, was assisted by lawyer Sonu Bagchi, who discovered his hearing and speech impairments. Efforts to trace his family failed initially due to his inability to provide his address.
With police support, the boy was taken to a shelter home for children with similar disabilities. The West Bengal Radio Club, known for reuniting missing individuals with their families, was also contacted for assistance. Through nationwide circulation of his photos and videos, the boy was identified by a family in Bihar’s East Champaran district.
The boy, identified as Khurshid Alam, was ecstatic to reconnect with his mother via video call. His family in Motihari, including a factory worker father and an electrician brother, eagerly awaited his return. The teenager’s disappearance, possibly linked to a gaming addiction, had left his mother distraught.
Celebrations erupted in Motihari upon hearing the news, with the boy’s brother preparing to bring him home from Kakinara after completing necessary formalities. The West Bengal Radio Club emphasized their commitment to using amateur radio for humanitarian purposes, having aided numerous reunions without charge.
