Patna, Aug 4 (IANS) Bihar’s Leader of the Opposition and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a sharp attack on the state government on Tuesday, accusing it of failing to control rising crime and questioning the police investigation into the murder of Vimal Kumari, Executive Officer of the Municipal Council in Dehri of Rohtas district.

Addressing a press conference in Patna, Tejashwi alleged that the investigation was proceeding in the wrong direction and claimed that several people could be involved in the murder.

He demanded the strictest punishment for those responsible.

Tejashwi said he had met the bereaved family on Sunday and described the killing of the municipal officer as “deeply disturbing”.

He alleged that this was the second incident involving the killing of a government official since Samrat Choudhary assumed office as the Bihar Chief Minister.

According to Tejashwi, the investigation is currently focusing primarily on the victim’s driver, but the family has raised allegations against other individuals as well.

He claimed that the driver had changed his statements several times and questioned why the weapon allegedly used in the crime had not yet been recovered.

Tejashwi also alleged that the victim’s family had accused NDA/LJP-RV MLA Sonu Singh of involvement in the conspiracy and claimed that money had allegedly been demanded.

He questioned why the police were not thoroughly investigating this angle.

“How can pressure related to official work justify someone’s murder?” Tejashwi asked, saying that accepting such a justification could set a dangerous precedent.

He also questioned the alleged relationship between Inspector General Vikas Vaibhav and MLA Sonu Singh, referring to their appearances together at public events.

Tejashwi demanded that all possible angles be investigated rather than limiting the probe to the driver.

The Bihar Opposition leader accused the state government of shielding influential individuals in several cases and questioned the Chief Minister’s priorities.

He alleged that while the Chief Minister has time to attend various programmes, he has not found time to meet the family of the slain official.

He demanded adequate security for the victim’s family and called for a government job to be provided to her wife.

Reacting to the Bankipur Assembly by-election results, Tejashwi said the RJD respected the people’s mandate but claimed that the result also reflected public resentment against the BJP.

He said the BJP had been facing electoral setbacks in successive elections and claimed that the RJD had at least secured a victory in the MLC election while the BJP had suffered defeats in several political contests.

Targeting Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Tejashwi described him as a complete failure and challenged the Bihar government to point to even one major achievement of Choudhary during his first 100 days in office.
