Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s suggestion to reduce the minimum age for contesting elections from 25 to 21, calling it a diversion tactic. Rao alleged that the proposal aimed to shift focus from the Congress government’s failure to release Rs 12,000 crore in pending fee reimbursements to 20 lakh students in Telangana.
Rao highlighted that the current minimum age of 25 for contesting elections was established by the Constitution makers, with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar emphasizing the need for legislators to have experience. He suggested that the Congress party appoint a young leader as its president, similar to the BJP’s decision to name Nitin Nabhin as the national president, emphasizing youth representation.
The BJP leader claimed that the youth across the country trust the BJP, attributing the party’s success to this trust. Rao criticized the Congress government for neglecting the students and unemployed youth in Telangana, accusing it of exploiting their aspirations for political gain. He pointed out the government’s failure to clear fee reimbursements and address the crisis in government universities.
Rao further accused CM Reddy of mishandling education matters, demanding his resignation as Education Minister. He urged the government to fulfill its promises to the youth, suggesting that responsibilities be handed over to Congress youth MLA Mamidala Yashaswini Reddy to demonstrate genuine intent.
