Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed his aspiration for Telangana and Hyderabad to host the 2036 Olympics, emphasizing their readiness for the prestigious event. Inaugurating the Gachibowli Sports District and the Young India Physical Education and Sports University (YIPESU) alongside Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha, he announced plans for a world-class sports academy spanning 82 acres.
He highlighted the importance of a clear sports policy, stating that the lack of such policies has hindered India’s sports progress. The establishment of the Young India Sports University, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s Young India weekly newspaper, aims to address this gap. Reddy also emphasized the need for comprehensive support for athletes and the autonomy of the sports university.
Recognizing the significance of excelling in both academics and sports, the Chief Minister pledged government job opportunities for athletes achieving excellence. He underscored the nation’s need to enhance its sports performance and lauded individuals like P.T. Usha for their contributions to the sports sector. Cash incentives were awarded to talented athletes from Telangana, and upcoming tournaments and leagues in the state were announced.
