The Telangana civil supplies department has taken action against hoarding and black-marketing of LPG, confiscating 3,699 illegal domestic LPG cylinders along with 70 small cylinders between March 12 and April 3. The seized property is valued at Rs. 1.10 crore. Authorities have filed 1,275 cases under Section 6A of the Essential Commodities Act, with 216 FIRs registered.
Under Section 6A of the Essential Commodities Act, district Collectors have the authority to seize essential commodities if hoarding and black marketing are suspected. Notably, cases where domestic LPG cylinders are misused for commercial purposes are being addressed. The civil supplies department has reassured the public of an abundant supply of domestic LPG but cautioned against any misuse, emphasizing stringent actions.
The public-sector oil marketing companies in Telangana supply approximately 2.15 lakh LPG cylinders daily. Civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has affirmed that petroleum product stocks are more than sufficient for three months, responding to recent panic buying of petrol and diesel. However, the state is experiencing a shortage of auto LPG, impacting autorickshaw drivers significantly.
