Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) deputy floor leader in Telangana Assembly, T. Harish Rao, criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for not fulfilling the commitment of Rs.1 crore compensation per family for the 54 workers who died in a fire at Sigachi Industries Limited’s unit in Sangareddy district last year. Rao highlighted that the CM has not even paid half of the promised amount. He stated that CM Reddy’s tendency to make grand promises and then ignore them has become a recurring pattern.
Rao pointed out that the government’s response in the Assembly revealed that the compensation promised was merely symbolic, offering no real justice to the victims. He emphasized that the discrepancy between the promised Rs.1 crore and the actual average compensation of around ₹45.40 lakh per family, totaling an outstanding sum of ₹29.48 crore, has left the victims in a dire situation. Rao questioned the State Government’s sincerity in fulfilling its commitments, especially regarding the compensation pledged to the affected families.
Harish Rao also accused the management and government of colluding to manipulate compensation figures, labeling it as a massive fraud. He demanded immediate action to seize the assets of Sigachi directors under the Revenue Recovery Act to ensure the promised compensation of Rs.1 crore per family is promptly disbursed without bureaucratic obstacles. The incident, which occurred on June 30, 2025, resulted in a fatal fire at Sigachi Industries, claiming the lives of 54 workers and injuring 28 others in Sangareddy district.
