Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to create a strategy for transforming Greater Hyderabad into a city free from pollution. In a meeting with senior officials from Municipal Administration and Urban Development, as well as newly appointed Zonal Commissioners, he stressed the importance of implementing effective measures to ensure cleanliness and proper garbage management. The Chief Minister also announced a complete ban on plastic usage to combat pollution in the city.

The Chief Minister highlighted the Telangana Rising 2047 Vision Document, recently unveiled at the Global Summit, which outlines a roadmap for the state’s planned development. As part of this vision, the Core Urban Region (CURE) is being established within the Outer Ring Road, reorganized into 12 zones, 60 circles, and 300 wards to enhance administrative efficiency. Efforts are underway to protect water bodies, with a focus on safeguarding ponds and nalas from encroachment.

To address air pollution, the Chief Minister introduced electric buses and autos in place of diesel vehicles within the CURE area. He directed the new zonal commissioners to conduct regular field visits to address civic issues and instructed the installation of CCTV cameras at key locations like ponds, nalas, and garbage dumping areas. Additionally, a special sanitation drive for three days a month was mandated to maintain cleanliness and ensure proper waste management.

Emphasizing the importance of providing efficient services to residents within the core urban region, CM Revanth Reddy stressed the utilization of technology for issuing essential documents online in a transparent manner. He urged officials to engage with welfare associations and maintain communication with colony and apartment associations. The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for smart governance alongside good governance and ordered desilting work in nalas to commence in January.

CM Revanth Reddy further directed zonal commissioners to prevent mosquito breeding and the spread of diseases by conducting regular garbage cleaning. Monthly reviews with all zonal commissioners were scheduled to monitor progress, with a focus on upholding food safety regulations in hotels within the CURE region. The Chief Minister also instructed authorities to construct government office buildings in the core urban area, shift offices from rented to owned buildings, and map all lakes, ponds, and nalas in the 12 zones of the core urban region.
