Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy raised concerns about the Centre’s lack of action against former CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao and ex-Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao despite the state government involving the CBI in investigating alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project. Addressing the State Legislative Assembly, he urged BJP leaders from the state to take up the issue with the Centre.
Responding to a suggestion by a BJP member supporting the demand for a House Committee to investigate corruption allegations against Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy criticized BRS legislators for leaving the House after making suggestions.
Revanth Reddy recalled BJP leaders’ accusations that Kaleshwaram had turned into an ATM for KCR, mentioning statements by the country’s Prime Minister and Union Home Minister implicating KCR’s family in misappropriating funds from the project. Despite handing over the case to the CBI based on these claims, no action has been taken against KCR and Harish Rao by the Centre.
Alleging collusion between BJP and BRS, Revanth Reddy suggested that BJP leaders ensure KCR and Harish Rao face legal consequences in the Kaleshwaram case before offering suggestions. He also accused Harish Rao’s brother of coercing private industry owners and acquiring land illegally, proposing a House Committee investigation if Harish Rao agrees.
Minister for Legislative Affairs D. Sridhar Babu defended the government’s integrity, stating that a House Committee was unnecessary as the CB CID had been investigating illegal mining since 2014, despite objections from ruling party members over BRS disrupting proceedings.
