Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has called on Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Paatil to swiftly address the inter-state water sharing issue concerning the Tungabhadra river. Speaking at a public gathering in Karnataka’s Hosapete during the unveiling of new dam gates, the Chief Minister highlighted the significance of a recent meeting attended by the Chief Ministers of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, chaired by Minister Paatil.
Revanth Reddy stressed the need for political unity in supporting the farmers across the three states, emphasizing the importance of the recent meeting as a crucial first step towards amicably resolving the water sharing matter. The inauguration of 33 new gates at the Tungabhadra dam was hailed as a substantial move towards addressing the water sharing dispute and alleviating the challenges faced by numerous farmers in the region.
The Chief Minister noted that despite an allocation of 17.9 TMC of water from the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme, Telangana farmers are utilizing only a fraction of it due to operational constraints. He also highlighted the state government’s efforts in bringing attention to issues such as silt accumulation in the river and water allocation disputes, expressing a commitment to finding lasting solutions to the water crisis through collaborative efforts.
