Telangana’s Director General of Police, C.V. Anand, emphasized that drug traffickers will be treated as more dangerous than extremists and terrorists. He highlighted the need for stringent enforcement of laws against drug offenders. An effective crackdown on drug trafficking and ganja smuggling in specific districts is crucial for enhancing anti-drug measures statewide.
The DGP, during a District Crime Review Meeting, pointed out that Bhadradri Kothagudem’s proximity to Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh makes it a significant gateway for ganja trafficking. He instructed the police to escalate efforts against ganja cultivation, transportation, and illicit trade. Concerned about the rising drug abuse impact, especially among youth, he warned of the serious threat it poses to future generations, citing the situation in Punjab as a cautionary example.
Stressing the commitment to combat drug networks, the DGP declared a relentless war against drug traffickers, ensuring their prosecution regardless of their location. He reiterated the goal of making Telangana a drug-free state by 2029, urging public involvement. The police were directed to enhance surveillance at key locations, improve investigation quality and speed, and boost conviction rates through prompt filing of charge sheets.
