The Telangana government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has named senior IAS officer Sanjay Jaju as its new Chief Secretary. Jaju, a 1992-batch IAS officer, will take over from K. Ramakrishna Rao, who is set to retire on June 30. The appointment was confirmed through a Government Order issued recently.
Jaju will also handle additional responsibilities as he assumes the Full Additional Charge (FAC) of key departments. This includes roles such as Special Chief Secretary to Government for Industries & Commerce, ITE&C Departments, and Special Chief Secretary & CEO for Industry & Investment Cell in CMO and SPEED.
The decision to appoint Jaju came after the Centre approved his return to Telangana from his previous role as Secretary in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. Chief Minister Reddy chose Jaju due to his extensive experience and lack of association with the previous government. Despite other senior officers from the same 1992 batch, Jaju was preferred considering his retirement timeline aligning with crucial upcoming elections.
Jaju brings a wealth of experience, having served in various capacities within the Central Government. Notably, he played a key role in establishing online services for the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited. With a career spanning 15 years in the Central Government, Jaju has held significant positions in defense production and information & broadcasting ministries.
In a related move, outgoing Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao has been appointed as Advisor & Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister post his retirement. Additionally, Dr. C. Suvarna, IFS (1991), Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, has been relieved from service effective June 30, with Vinay Kumar, IFS (1992), taking over as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) & Chief Wildlife Warden.
