In a move to enhance Telangana’s sports scene, the state government has officially supported the Archery Premier League (APL) for its upcoming second season. The league, set to take place in Hyderabad from October 8 to 18, is recognized as a key sporting event in the state, contributing to Hyderabad’s reputation as a prominent sports destination.
Telangana not only hosts the APL but also owns a franchise named the Kakatiya Knights, reinforcing its connection to India’s top archery competition. The APL’s presence in Hyderabad is anticipated to invigorate the state’s archery community, especially in rural and tribal areas where the sport has strong roots among the Koya and Gond tribal communities.
The state boasts Sports Schools, Eklavya Model Residential Schools, and Khelo India Centres that play a pivotal role in nurturing young talent. By attracting top archers to Hyderabad, the APL aims to elevate the sport’s visibility, encourage wider participation, and create new opportunities for budding archers across Telangana.
During the unveiling of the Young India Sports University logo and website in Hyderabad, attended by Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy and Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha, the government highlighted the APL as one of Telangana’s premier sporting events.
Confirming the news, Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Special Chief Secretary (Sports), stated, “In another two months, we will be hosting the Archery Premier League.”
Supported by the Government of Telangana and the Archery Association of India (AAI), Season 2 of the APL will showcase six franchise teams featuring 48 Indian and international recurve and compound archers, including Olympic medalists and World Champions. The league’s unique 15-second shot clock format offers a fast-paced and engaging experience for spectators while providing Indian archers with exposure to elite international competition.
The Archery Premier League (APL) is India’s leading franchise-based archery league, initiated by the Archery Association of India (AAI).
