The Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, is advocating for a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding the Kaleshwaram project. Following legal counsel, the Chief Minister has instructed officials to formally request the CBI to launch a prompt inquiry into the project. In response to a recent High Court ruling on the matter, CM Revanth Reddy and irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy conducted a comprehensive review meeting to assess the situation.
Since there are no pending cases in court related to the Kaleshwaram issue, legal experts have assured the Chief Minister that there are no legal barriers preventing the CBI from commencing an investigation. Notably, the High Court did not find fault with the government’s establishment of the Justice PC Ghosh Commission or its subsequent report. The State Cabinet, in a meeting on April 23, decided to urge the CBI to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into the Kaleshwaram project.
Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasized the state government’s longstanding request for a CBI probe, highlighting that it has been nine months since the initial appeal was made. He reiterated that the High Court’s ruling did not absolve former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and ex-minister T. Harish Rao of any wrongdoing. The High Court specifically affirmed the legality of the P. C. Ghose Commission, dismissing KCR and Harish Rao’s plea to declare the Commission illegal and nullify its findings.
