The Telangana government, under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has decided to increase minimum wages for workers in the state. The decision, based on a recommendation from a Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, will see a rise in wages across different worker categories. For unskilled workers, the minimum wage will go up from Rs 12,750 to Rs 16,000, while for semi-skilled workers, it will increase from Rs 13,152 to Rs 17,000.
This move also includes an increase in minimum wages for skilled and highly skilled workers. The minimum wage for skilled workers will rise from Rs 13,772 to Rs 18,500, and for highly skilled workers, it will increase from Rs 14,607 to Rs 20,000. The new wage structure is set to benefit 1.11 crore workers and will be effective from June 1.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted the negligence faced by workers under the previous government and emphasized the importance of this decision for their welfare. He mentioned the creation of three geographical zones to determine the minimum wage structure, categorizing Municipal Corporations as Zone 1, Municipalities as Zone 2, and Rural Areas as Zone 3.
Revanth Reddy urged the youth to explore opportunities beyond IT careers and overseas migration, emphasizing the significance of possessing technical skills. He pointed out the establishment of a Skills University by the state government to empower the youth and encourage them to focus on skill development. The Chief Minister also praised Labour Minister Vivek Venkatswamy for his efforts towards the welfare of the working class, following in the footsteps of his late father, former Union Minister G. Venkatswamy.
