Telangana’s Minister for Civil Supplies, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, reassured the public that there is an abundant supply of fuel available to meet the people’s needs. He emphasized the establishment of a special control room to monitor fuel distribution and urged citizens not to be alarmed by rumors. The minister highlighted a significant increase in diesel and petrol distribution across the state, with measures in place to address the surge in demand.
Special attention is being given to ensuring an uninterrupted supply of diesel for agricultural purposes, with monitoring conducted at the district level by a dedicated committee. The minister disclosed that daily diesel distribution statewide has surged by 210%, while petrol distribution has also risen by 132%. To cope with the heightened demand, Oil Marketing Companies are operating round the clock in multiple shifts and vigilance is being maintained at inter-state borders to regulate fuel sales.
The sudden spike in demand for petroleum products in Telangana, triggered by dry-outs in neighboring Andhra Pradesh, has led to panic buying across various districts. The situation was further exacerbated by public anticipation of a price hike post the West Bengal elections, resulting in shortages. Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy, affirmed that there is no scarcity of fuel in Telangana and emphasized the government’s efforts to maintain adequate supplies nationwide.
