Telangana’s Minister for Irrigation, Uttam Kumar Reddy, emphasized that the state’s allocated water share in the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS) will not be compromised. Measures are being taken by the state government to safeguard the interests of farmers within the RDS ayacut.
During a high-level review meeting at the B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat, the minister addressed issues related to the RDS and Tungabhadra Dam. The meeting focused on a comprehensive review of Tungabhadra water distribution matters.
Amidst controversies over alleged unauthorized withdrawal of Krishna river waters by Andhra Pradesh, a team of engineers from the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) recently inspected RDS in Karnataka. The minister instructed officials to assert Telangana’s rights strongly in utilizing Tungabhadra waters to protect the state’s interests and prevent losses for Telangana farmers.
The government’s primary objective is to safeguard Telangana’s rights, as reiterated by the minister. Efforts will be made to advocate for the rights and irrigation security of Telangana farmers on various platforms. An action plan has been devised to present Telangana’s arguments effectively in tribunals, boards, and inter-state meetings.
