With Maoist activities dwindling in Telangana, Director General of Police C. V. Anand recently visited the Greyhounds headquarters to review the downsizing and restructuring of the state’s elite anti-Maoist force. Anand, who assumed office as the DGP, conducted a comprehensive meeting focusing on operational and administrative aspects of the Greyhounds. The discussion included the reduction of Greyhounds’ strength in light of decreased Maoist activities and the pending proposal for surrendered posts.
The review encompassed evaluating Greyhounds’ operational activities, performance in anti-Maoist operations, and training standards. Emphasizing the need for continuous improvement to meet evolving operational demands, Anand instructed the force to enhance operational efficiency and combat readiness. He highlighted the importance of regular firing practice and rigorous training to ensure the force remains mission-ready at all times.
During the visit, Anand also inspected the Commando Training Centre of OCTOPUS at Ibrahimpatnam, reviewing the training activities and operational preparedness of the elite counter-terror force. Interacting with officers and commandos, he assessed the force’s readiness to respond to terror-related incidents and reviewed the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams. Anil Kumar, DGP Operations, briefed Anand on operational activities, mock exercises, and specialized training in handling advanced weapons.
Addressing the importance of mock operations in diverse scenarios to enhance effectiveness, Anand stressed the need for high physical fitness, alertness, and readiness among officers and commandos. He also reviewed the requirements for modern equipment and infrastructure enhancement to strengthen counter-terror teams. Advising on operational strategies for existing and upcoming airport facilities, Anand emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards for crisis response.
