Telangana’s Director General of Police, C.V. Anand, announced that the police department is implementing strict measures to maintain peace and communal harmony during the upcoming Bakrid festival. An online meeting was held by the DGP and senior officials with Police Commissioners and Superintendents from all districts. The focus is on preventing illegal cattle transportation and ensuring compliance with relevant laws.
The DGP emphasized the sensitivity of Bakrid from a law and order perspective and highlighted the importance of vigilance to prevent any communal tensions. Stringent enforcement of laws related to cattle transportation, including the Cow Slaughter Act and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, was stressed. Check posts have been set up at state borders and within the state to curb illegal cattle smuggling.
Officials were instructed to intensify vehicle checks in suspicious areas and monitor cattle fairs. Verification of necessary documents at check posts is crucial, and the checking process will continue throughout the festival period. The DGP warned against individuals taking the law into their own hands and advised against road blockades or confrontations based on suspicion.
Close coordination among various departments was emphasized, along with the establishment of WhatsApp groups for effective communication. Adequate shelters for seized animals and strict monitoring of social media for provocative content were also highlighted. The DGP urged officers to ensure a peaceful Bakrid without any untoward incidents.
