A Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) driver, Kola Shankar Goud, passed away after attempting self-immolation at a protest by striking employees in Narasampet bus depot, Warangal district. Goud, who suffered severe burns, succumbed at Apollo DRDO Hospital in Hyderabad. The strike, now in its third day, is for the resolution of 32 demands including the merger of TGSRTC with the government and payment revision.
Another RTC worker in Nalgonda tried self-immolation but was prevented by alert police and colleagues. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed shock over Goud’s death and pledged support to his family. The State Cabinet urged employees to end the strike, emphasizing the government’s commitment to resolving issues through dialogue. Talks with union leaders are scheduled under Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka’s guidance.
Reddy urged RTC workers against impulsive actions, emphasizing that extreme steps won’t solve problems. He assured that the government is dedicated to addressing worker concerns and invited unions for discussions. The government remains positive and resolute in resolving the ongoing crisis.
